The Story Behind the Old Cabin: Photographing the Heart of Restoration Ranch in Golden, CO

There’s something about an old building that pulls you in, isn’t there? The creak of the wood, the way the light sneaks through the gaps, the feeling that maybe—just maybe—it’s been waiting all along for someone to breathe life back into it.

That’s exactly how it felt photographing Kathryn, the founder of Restoration Ranch Colorado, right there in front of that sun-drenched, timeworn building. Nestled in the hills of Golden, CO, the property is quiet, hidden in the trees, and full of soul. Just like her.

We did most of her session around that old cabin—not because it was perfect, but because it meant something. That building was the reason she fell in love with the land in the first place. It’s reminiscent of who she wanted to help: first responders and their families who carry so much, often in silence.

This session was real. Wind in her hair, boots in the dirt, a few long exhales between takes. We talked about showing up authentically and the courage it takes to just be.
